Making TU Lab Reports Easier with TU Coverify
A simple look at TU Coverify, a tool designed to make creating TU lab covers, indexes, and calculating SGPA or CGPA faster and easier.
As a B.Sc. CSIT student, there are some things in college that are not really difficult, but somehow they take a lot of time. Making lab report covers is one of them.
I have personally spent time opening Word, changing the college name, subject, course code, roll number, teacher name and other details, then trying to make everything align properly. And the worst part is that after doing it once, I had to do almost the same thing again for the next subject.
At some point I thought, why am I doing this manually every time?
That is basically how I started building TU Coverify.
TU Coverify is a small web project I made for Tribhuvan University students. The main idea is simple. You enter your details, see the cover page update in real time, and then download it in the format you need.
I wanted it to feel much easier than opening a Word document and manually fixing everything.
The website currently supports TU lab report cover pages, bulk covers, lab index tables and BSc CSIT SGPA and CGPA calculations. It also lets students upload their college logo and export their documents as PDF, DOCX, PNG, JPG or even raw Typst source.
One part I particularly enjoyed building was the live preview. Instead of filling everything out and waiting until the end to see what the document looks like, the preview updates while you type. The actual document generation is powered by Typst, which I used because I wanted the final output to have proper document formatting rather than just being a screenshot of a webpage.
The project is built with Next.js and TypeScript, with Tailwind CSS for styling. I also used Motion for animations, docx.js for DOCX generation and a self hosted Typst binary for the document rendering.
There were definitely parts of the project that took more time than I expected. Getting the document layout right, handling different export formats, making the preview fast and making sure the generated files actually look good when printed were all things I had to think about.
I also wanted this to be more than just a one time project. That is why I added things like bulk cover generation and the lab index generator. These are features that can actually save time when you have multiple lab reports to prepare.
The project is now live, and anyone can try it without having to manually create the same cover page again.
You can check it out at TU Coverify: tucoverify.ankitak.com.np
I have also made the project open source on GitHub .
For me, TU Coverify started with a very simple problem. I was tired of doing the same boring task again and again. So instead of complaining about it, I decided to build something that could solve it.
And honestly, those are some of my favourite projects to build. Start with a small problem, build something useful around it, and then keep improving it.
